AI and Creative Authorship Statement
The evolution of generative technology has introduced powerful new capabilities to the music industry. As we navigate this landscape, it is essential to establish a clear distinction between technological assistance and creative authorship.
AI as a Collaborative Tool
We recognize that Artificial Intelligence serves as a sophisticated resource for songwriters and composers. It can act as a "digital sparring partner," offering value in the following areas:
Ideation: Generating phonetic patterns or rhyme schemes to overcome creative blocks.
Structural Assistance: Suggesting chord progressions or melodic variations based on existing music theory.
Efficiency: Automating technical tasks, such as transcribing arrangements or basic MIDI orchestration.
The Standard of Originality
While AI can produce complex outputs, the core of artistic value lies in human experience and intent. To maintain the integrity of our platform, we uphold the following definitions of authorship:
All artists featured across our blog, podcast, and magazine platforms acknowledge that by identifying as a 'songwriter,' they certify that their lyrics and melodies are original works of their own intellectual creation.
All artists featured across our blog, podcast, and magazine platforms, acknowledge that by identifying as a 'composer,' they certify that the melodic, harmonic, and structural arrangements were conceived through their own intellectual creation.
Defining "Original Work"
Human Authorship: To be classified as an "Original Work," the composition or lyrics must be the product of human creative skill.
AI-Generated Content: Content where the fundamental creative decisions are made by an algorithm is viewed as a synthetic output rather than a protected creative work.
The "Prompt" Boundary: Providing a text prompt to an AI does not constitute songwriting or composing. The expressive spark must reflect the unique perspective of the human creator.
Our stance is rooted in the belief that music is a medium for human connection. While we embrace tools that enhance a creator’s workflow, we remain committed to the principle that authorship belongs to the artist, not the algorithm.
